Sabbath.
It's probably the commandment (of the 10) that nobody takes seriously. I didn't.
I sort of saw this as a legalistic command or requirement, something of the past. I even saw this as something a hard worker wouldn't waste their time on.
I sort of pride myself on working hard, I must admit, I tend to be a workaholic. Taking a day off seems lazy and boring to me. I thought of Sabbath as "sitting in boredom". I thought of sabbath as Sundays. I thought of Sabbath as simply making sure you go to church. I equated Sabbath with being the one day I couldn't get chik fil a (which is ironically the only day I really want it).
Theres a line in scripture that says, "Sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath." The concept of sabbath is not a legalistic rule to obey, but a gift of God to refresh us so that we would live in a healthier way under His grace. I read in John Mark Comers book, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, that Sabbath could be like, "Christmas Day once a week" (without the family drama). Imagine a day where we could nap, read a book, play a game, take a walk, pray, and simply do whatever would refresh the body, the mind, and the soul.
Some of us think that sabbath is only created by God for the weak people, that, "I don't need it". I have felt that way at times. But then God rested, God took a sabbath. Sabbath was designed by God so that we would rest, enjoy the presence of God, be refreshed and ironically work out of a place of being refreshed rather than burnout.
All this talk about Sabbath makes me think I should probably start taking one regularly...
